Plan to join us for SAVE’s Board of Director’s Meeting, this Wednesday, March 15th 7:00 pm at the lounge at Barnes & Noble Saugus, Rt 1. All SAVE members are welcome and encouraged to attend.
SAVE is, once again, offering an Environmental Scholarship to any Saugus resident who is graduating high school and pursuing a degree in any field which would benefit the environment. Please see attached application for further information.
All SAVE members are welcome and encouraged to attend the SAVE Board of Director’s Meeting scheduled for Wednesday Nov. 16th at 7:00pm in the lounge at Barnes & Noble Saugus.
Saugus Action Volunteers for the Environment (SAVE) will hold another “It’s New To You” SWAP on Saturday, September 24, 2016, from 10 am to 1 pm at Breakheart Reservation.
SAVE, the Friends of Breakheart, and DCR have joined together once again to help keep still-usable items out of the waste stream. This free, no-money event will be held in conjunction with BREAKHEART’S FALL FESTIVAL and is open to one and all. Feel free to bring usable items in good condition to the swap, or simply come by and browse – you may find something you can use.
Again, this is a FREE event, no money, just a simple swap. You can bring items or take items, you do not have to do both. Bring usable items in good condition to the SWAP, typically those things you no longer want but that are too good to throw away, and perhaps find a treasure or two to take home with you. (Please, we ask that you do not bring items that require special disposal.)
Residents are also encouraged to bring your worn-out sneakers or athletic shoes (any brand) for drop-off in our recycling bin for the Nike Reuse-a-Shoe program. The donated shoes will be ground up and purified to become a material called Nike Grind. The material will eventually become part of sports surfacing products ranging from basketball and tennis courts to fitness flooring and safety playground surfacing. This is an easy way for each of us to continue our recycling efforts and further reduce our carbon footprint.
Mark your calendar. CELEBRATE FALL FESTIVAL AND HELP SAVE THE PLANET BY CONTINUING TO RECYCLE. Stop by at the Breakheart Christopher P. Dunne Visitors Center, 177 Forest Street, Saugus, on September 24th. And remember, as we move toward ZERO WASTE: REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE!

To be part of a long-established community group working to improve
Saugus. “Think globally, act locally” the current mantra for global
warming solutions, describes well our past and continuing actions.
SAVE members have, among other projects, helped establish
curbside recycling in Saugus, conserved historic and environmentally
sensitive land on Vinegar Hill, and established a scholarship for
local students entering a field of study that benefits the environment
and preserves the philosophy of SAVE.
As a member you will meet others with similar goals. Do as much as
you like, or just support our activities with your name and dues.
SAVE is committed to encouraging and supporting local, state and
national legislation that promotes, establishes, and expands programs
for solid waste management based on “reduce, reuse, and recycle”,
so that each day we get closer to the goal of ‘zero waste’.
